Average Steady Nonuniform Flow in Stratified Formations

چکیده
A mathematical model of average nonuniform flow in heterogeneous tratified media is developed. The averaged Darcy's law is obtained by deriving the analytical expression of the effective conductivity tensor for media with small heterogeneities. The fundamental solution of the average flow equation (mean Green function) corresponding to the flow toward a single point source of deterministic discharge is derived. The mean head distribution is calculated for a fully penetrating well, for a finite length well in an infinite domain, and for a dipole well. The concept of equivalent conductivity is defined for use in identifying the formation conductivity properties. The procedure for identifying the mean conductivity, log conductivity variance, and vertical integral scale is suggested for the case of dipole flow.

Flow simulation of gallium in a cylindrical annulus in the presence of a magnetic field for improving the casting process
Free convection flow in an enclosure filled with a congealing melt leads to the product with a nonuniform structure involving large grains. The convective flows are decreased by applying an appropriate magnetic field, obtaining uniform and small grain structures. In this work, using the finite volume method, we investigated the application of a magnetic field to the convective heat transfer and...
متن کاملSteady-state discharge into tunnels in formations with random variability and depth–decaying trend of hydraulic conductivity
Multi-scale heterogeneity of geological formations is a rule, which consists of random (local-scale) and systematic (large-scale) variability of hydraulic conductivity. The random variability and depth–decaying trend, a systematic variability, have different effects on subsurface flow, thus on groundwater discharge into tunnels. Little research has examined this problem in the past. Using Monte...

The motion of temperature dependent viscosity and thermal conductivity of steady incompressible laminar free convective (MHD) non-Newtonian Casson fluid flow over an exponentially stretching surface embedded in a thermally stratified medium are investigated. It is assumed that natural convection is induced by buoyancy and exponentially decaying internal heat generation across the space. The dim...

Some new analytical solutions for dimensionless pressure vs. dimensionless time are presented. It is deomonstrated how these new solutions, together with existing ones, can be used for unravelling reservoir heterogeneity patterns, quantitative interpretation of selected field tests, and well test design. The field tests cover both naturally fractured carbonates and layered sandstones. Two examp...

Axisymmetric steady flow in such a column was analyzed to determine the impact of radially nonuniform boundary conditions at the column entrance and...
